The Chevrolet Colorado already has a rugged off-road model dubbed the ZR2, but the automaker is taking is a step further with a new model. Dubbed the ZR2 Bison, this rig is a joint effort between General Motors and American Expedition Vehicles, a premium off-road aftermarket manufacturer.
The 2019 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison boasts all the same goodies as the standard ZR2, including front and rear locking electronic differentials, Multimatic DSSV dampers, off-road rocker protection, cast-iron control arms, 3.42-to-1 axle ratios, 3.5-inch wider front and rear tracks, a 2-inch body lift, an Autotrac transfer case, and much more. Beyond the ZR2 features, the Bison gains five AEV-designed Boron steel skid plates covering the engine oil pan, fuel tank, transfer case and front and rear differentials.
Up front is a stamped steel bumper that includes winch provisions and a flow-through “Chevrolet” lettered grille. The rear bumper is also steel stamped and features recovery points just in case. At the corners are 17-by-8-inch aluminum wheels wrapped in 31-inch Goodyear Duratrac off-road rubber.
Helping further distinguish this rig from other Colorados is the “AEV Bison” logo on the tailgate, and embroidered AEV logo on the floor liners and front headrests.
Buyers can choose from a crew- or extended-cab format. Buyers can opt to add the 2.8-liter turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine in place of the standard V-6 and an AEV snorkel intake.
