Jeep confirms that it will add three new models to their lineup by 2020 to offer a greater variety to their loyal driving base. Jeep CEO Mike Manly confirmed the arrivals of the new Wagoneer as well as the Grand Wagoneer – each with their own wheelbase, effectively making them two separate models – and the already anticipated Wrangler pickup. These SUVs will help redirect the brand back to its roots.
“It’s a place we’ve been, we walked away from it, now we’re going to be strong again,” said CEO Manley, who was referencing the original 1984-1991 Grand Wagoneer and its rank in the segment. Jeep aims to elevate the Wagoneer into a more upscale position akin to the Range Rover.
However, not all trim levels will come with the luxury price tag. Base models for the 2017 Grand Cherokee will compete for space alongside the Chevy Tahoe and Ford Expedition. There will also be a hybrid version to look out for to entice an even larger variety of drivers. Manly also said he plans to make the Wagoneer models accessible to everyone and will avoid making it a niche interest.
