2022 Chevrolet Colorado vs 2022 Ford Ranger

Both the new 2022 Chevrolet Colorado and 2022 Ford Ranger feature projector-beam halogen headlights, heated side-view mirrors, and a locking tailgate. However, the new Colorado offers more cargo bed tie downs, up to 17 versus the Ranger’s four tie downs. It also gives you 15 wheel styles to choose from while the new Ranger only offers 11. In the new Colorado’s bed, you’ll also find a CornerStep rear bumper, cargo box LED lights, and a spray-on bedliner.

On the Colorado, the two-door extended cab seats four, while the four-door crew cab seats five. The Ranger matches these seating numbers, with its SuperCab being the four seater and the SuperCrew seating five.

This feature helps you teach your young driver safe road habits by letting you set a speed alert and a volume limit. The technology’s Buckle-to-Drive feature mutes the Colorado’s audio until the front-seat occupants are all buckled in and it even generates a driving report card to let you know how your teen did. 

Ford offers the new Ranger with the SYNC® 3 infotainment system. Like the Colorado’s system, this feature comes with an 8-inch touchscreen and supports smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto. The new Ranger also features an available 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot (data plan required) and a B&O® sound system by Bang and Olufsen®. However, the new Ranger does not feature a wireless charging pad or Teen Driver technology.

This midsize pickup truck comes standard with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that generates 200 horsepower and 191 pound-feet of torque. You can kick that power up a notch with the available 308-horsepower 3.6-liter V-6 engine. For all the diesel lovers, the Colorado’s available 2.8-liter Duramax® turbo-diesel engine is sure to impress with 181 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. With the diesel engine, the new Colorado achieves a 7,700-pound towing capacity. 

The new Colorado is available with four-wheel drive and features a tow/haul mode that raises transmission upshift points to generate more power when towing a heavy load. It also features an automatic locking rear differential, electronic traction control, and StabiliTrak® electronic stability-control system that provides added traction and control.

Over on the Ford Ranger, you’ll find only one engine option. The Ranger’s 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine generates 270 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque, allowing it to achieve a 7,500-pound towing capacity. This midsize pickup truck also offers a 4×4 system, an electronic locking rear differential, and a Terrain-Management System with trailer-sway control.
