Need a luxurious sedan to cruise the Green Cove Springs area in but lack the funds for an all-out luxury car. The 2019 Buick Regal offers a delicate balance of luxury, performance, and pricing, making it a great fit for you. Find out how it stands up to one of the newest luxury cars on the market, the 2020 Cadillac CT5, below.
Exterior
The Buick Regal went through a dramatic redesign in 2018, ushering a new, more European design and a new sportback body that replaced the trunk with a spacious liftback while retaining a sedan-like look. This look may not be as sporty and youthful as the Cadillac CT5, but that’s because the Regal caters to a more established crowd who isn’t looking for a flashy car that stands out in a crowd.
The Cadillac CT5 is all-new for 2020 and follows in the footsteps of the rest of the updated Caddy lineup with its sharp, sporty looks. This sedan is not for the weak of heart, as its bold looks require a commitment to getting plenty of stares for at least the next few years. And if you upgrade to the sportier CT5-V, you will get even more gawks.
In terms of footprint, the 2020 Cadillac CT5 is larger than the Regal in every key measurable, making the Buick a friendlier drive in city traffic and easier to park in tight spaces.

Interior
Inside, the 2020 Cadillac CT5 and 2019 Buick Regal are very similar in styling, as they both opt for swoopier designs that give them more upscale and sporty looks without being too over the top. Both models boast large touchscreens, though the Cadillac gets a 3-inch advantage with its standard 10-inch HD screen.
Despite falling short with its standard 7-inch touchscreen, the Buick Regal is still well-equipped for being a sub-luxury sedan. Its $25,995 base model includes upscale standard features like 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, an eight-point digital compass, a seven-speaker AM/FM audio system, four USB ports, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and much more.
The 2020 Cadillac CT5 is a true luxury sedan, so even the limited information on its standard features shows its cabin is more packed with premium amenities like sound optimization, active noise cancellation, the Cadillac User Experience infotainment system with a rotary control, a 10-inch HD touchscreen, and a dual-mic, cloud-based natural voice recognition.
In terms of roominess, the CT5 wins in most areas, but the Regal has wider seats and more rear headroom. Where the Regal puts space between it and the CT5 is cargo room, as its sportback body offers up to 31.5 cubic feet of cargo room with the seats upright and an SUV-rivaling 60.7 cubes with the seats folded.

Performance
Under their respective hoods, the 2019 Buick Regal and 2020 Cadillac CT5 boast potent standard engines and wilder V-6 units for their performance variants. In the Regal, its standard 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine pumps out 250 horsepower to the CT5’s 2.0-liter’s 237 horses. This gives the Regal a strong 5.6-second 0-to-60 sprint. There are no acceleration tests on the CT5 yet.
The Regal GS swaps out the four-cylinder for a 310-horsepower V-6 engine that cuts 0.2 seconds off its sprint time. The GS also boasts an adaptive suspension, upgraded brakes, all-wheel drive, and more to help it handle better.
The CT5-V makes the GS look like a mainstream family sedan with its twin-turbo V-6 engine that bangs out 355 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. This juice routes through a 10-speed automatic transmission to the rear or all four wheels. Keeping this power in check is the Magnetic Ride Control 4.0 system, Brembo brakes, and summer-only tires. There are no 0-to-60 tests on the CT5-V yet.
