There are plenty of off-road-focused packages for light-duty pickups, but the heavy-duty segment is under-represented in the off-road arena. Ford looks to changes that with the 2020 F-Series Super Duty Tremor package that adds all the off-road goodies most buyers will ever need.
The Tremor package is available on F-250 and F-350 Super Duty models in the XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum trims with the all-new 7.3-liter gas V8 or third-generation 6.7-liter Power Stroke® diesel. Buyers can package the Tremor with four-wheel-drive single-rear-wheel SuperCrew trucks with a 6.75-foot box. Those looking to add it to the F-250 will need to also add the high-capacity trailer tow package.
The F-Series Super Duty Tremor package will add 35-inch-diameter Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac maximum-traction tires fitted to unique 18-inch matte-finished black wheels, a 2-inch front-end lift, and a shorter air dam. This combines to give it an impressive 10.8 inches of ground clearance, best-in-class 33 inches of water fording, and approach and departure angles of 31.7 degrees and 24.5 degrees, respectively.
A set of progressive-rate springs provide a balance of heavy-duty towing performance while also controlling body motion on rough terrain. A custom set of 1.7-inch piston twin-tube dampers chip in to further control body motion. Ford tuned these dampers for soft damping at low speeds to absorb severe impacts.
The Super Duty Tremor maintains its traction using a locking rear differential with electronic shift-on-the-fly operation and a Dana® limited-slip front differential. In certain modes, the front axle senses traction loss and uses the brakes to send power to the wheel with traction. It also features five driving modes — Normal, Tow/Haul, ECO, Slippery, and Rock Crawl — and boasts Trail Control, which acts as a sort of cruise control when off-roading.
Rounding out the Tremor package will be off-road running boards that extend next to the body for damage control, extended-axle vent tubes, and the FX4 package’s heavy-duty skid plates.
The 2020 Ford F-Series Super Duty Tremor will hit the Garber Automall showroom later in 2019, but we don’t have pricing information yet.
