After tons of rumors, denials, admissions, and previews, the midengine 2020 Chevy Corvette Stingray has debuted. And, yes, it will continue with the Stingray name from the previous generation. Here’s what you can expect from the 2020 Corvette Stingray when it hits the Garber Automall Chevrolet showroom.
The 2020 Corvette’s new mid-engine setup results in a big shift in its appearance, shifting the cockpit forward by 16.5 inches. The 2020 Corvette also boasts massive side air intakes, a large rear hatch with an engine-viewing window, quad-exit exhaust tips, new-style dual-element LED taillights, low-profile headlights with new projectors, and tons more. Buyers can choose between 12 colors to drape over this sharp, new body: Torch Red, Arctic White, Black, Blade Silver Metallic, Shadow Gray, Ceramic Matrix Gray, Long Beach Red, Elkhart Lake Blue, Sebring Orange, Rapid Blue, Zeus Bronze, and Accelerate Yellow.
Mixed materials help keep the 2020 Corvette lightweight at 3,366 pounds while retaining a lower price. These mixed materials include cast aluminum components, a carbon-fiber rear bumper beam, and front and rear trunk tubs and dashboard made from fiberglass and a proprietary resin.
Inside, the 2020 Corvette Stingray boasts a striking cabin with hand-wrapped, -cut, and -sewn leather upholstery, real metal trim, stainless steel speaker grilles, a squared-off steering wheel, a large center console with a line of buttons on the passenger’s side, thin horizontal air vents, and more. There is also plenty of tech, including a 12-inch customizable gauge cluster, a new infotainment system, wireless charging, learn-as-you-go voice recognition, memory driver and passenger seat, a standard 10-speaker Bose audio system, and tons more.
Behind the seats, the all-new 2020 Corvette Stingray boasts a 6.2-liter V-8 engine that pumps out 495 horsepower at 6,450 rpm and 470 pound-feet of torque at 5,150 rpm. This power routes through a Chevrolet-first eight-speed dual-clutch transmission that ships power to the rear wheels for a sub-three-second 0-to-60 time with the Z51 package, which includes performance suspension, larger brake rotors, enhanced cooling, a unique axle ratio, brake-cooling ducts, a performance exhaust system, and more.
The official release date for the 2020 Chevy Corvette Stingray is not available yet, but we know production will kick off in late 2019. Pricing has been a big issue for Corvette traditionalists, as it has long delivered attainable performance, and its move to mid-engine meant the possibility of a huge price hike. Fortunately, Chevy has announced the 2020 Corvette will start just south of $60,000, putting is much closer to the current Corvette than most people thought it would be.
