Crossovers have a lot to offer buyers, including big spaces in smaller footprints and sedan-like driveability. Two crossovers that offer these benefits and more are the 2019 GMC Terrain and 2019 Ford Edge. While there is a lot about both crossovers for all our Orange Park buyers to love, you can only buy one. Which is the better crossover for your family? Continue reading to find out.
Exterior
The Ford Edge is a little long in the tooth relative to the GMC Terrain, as its last redesign came in 2015. That said, the 2019 Edge is still a stylish crossover boasting a sleek roofline, sharp body lines, and plenty of features to satisfy most buyers. New for 2019 is the Edge ST that replaces the old Sport trim. This model sports up the Edge with exclusive fascias, rocker panel extensions, wheels and more.
GMC just redesigned the Terrain for 2019, giving it an all-new look and reducing its weight. The Terrain boasts sharp lighting with a distinct wraparound signature lights that create a striking nighttime glare. It also features the on-trend floating roof and a more upright rear liftgate. While the Terrain is no luxury SUV, its range-topping Denali trim adds touches of luxury the Edge cannot reach, including LED headlights and tons of chrome accents.
Besides their looks, the GMC Terrain and Ford Edge have a huge gap in size, as the GMC is significantly larger in every key measurable. While the extra size helps in interior space, the smaller GMC is easier to zip through tight spaces with.

Interior
Inside, the 2019 Ford Edge continues with its dated setup that includes a plain center stack lined with circular buttons for each function, recessed touchscreen, and an abundance of hard plastics. It does, however, have the ST model to set things off with ST-badged seats, a special infotainment splash screen, an ST steering wheel, and more.
The Terrain’s cabin is also simple but in a modern way. It features larger standard and optional touchscreens, more color, and some harder angles all tucked into a thinner dashboard. While the Edge has its ST model to ignite its popularity flame, the Terrain has its Denali trim that adds loads of premium goodies like HD radio, navigation, a power liftgate, a Bose seven-speaker sound system, premium leather upholstery, and more.
In roominess, the smaller Terrain just can’t hang with the 2019 Ford Edge. There is not a key measurable the Terrain beats the Edge in, and it loses big in cargo room. But this is one of the trade-offs buyers expect when signing up for a smaller crossover like the Terrain.
The Edge also wins in standard safety tech with adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and more standard. The closest you can come to this in the Terrain is the SLT trim with the optional Driver Alert Package II.

Performance
With crossovers taking over as many families’ daily drivers, fuel economy has taken a new spot near the top in importance in this segment/ The 2019 GMC Terrain is among the best in this area with its standard 1.5-liter engine delivering up to 30 mpg highway, and its 1.6-liter diesel engine delivering an incredible 39 mpg highway. Sure, none of its engines are impressively powerful, though its 258-horsepower 2.0-liter engine delivers a sub-seven-second 0-to-60 time, but they are all efficient.
The 2019 Ford Edge tugs at the heartstrings of performance-car lovers with its standard 250-horsepower four-cylinder engine and optional 335-horsepower turbocharged V-6 engine that delivers a sports-car-beating 5.7-second 0-to-60 time.
