Ford F-150 Vs. Nissan Titan

Pickup trucks are some of the best-selling models in the U.S. right now, and none are hotter than the 2019 Ford F-150. The 2019 Nissan Titan does all it can to battle the mighty F-150 but struggles in sales. Does this mean you should follow the herd to Garber Automall in Orange Park to buy a 2019 F-150? Make sure it’s the right buy for you by reading our head-to-head comparison below.

Exterior

Pickup trucks are as robust as ever with deep lineups that range from small and simple to large and luxrious. Few are more robust than the 2019 Ford F-150 with its trio of cab options, range of bed sizes, varying ride heights, and even premium looks in the higher-end trims. The Ford F-150 takes a very simple approach in its lowest XL trim but moving up the lineup ladder adds loads of goodies that peak in the Limited trim, which boasts 22-inch wheels and loads of shiny bits to make it look the part of a luxury truck.

Looking for a rugged off-road rig? The 2019 Ford F-150 Raptor offers that with its higher ride height, flared wheel arches, bold grille, ripped-from-Baja-racing looks, and more.

The 2019 Toyota Tundra may not has as robust a lineup as the 2019 F-150, but it has a nice range that goes from the simple S trim to its premium-looking Platinum Reserve model. The latter dresses up this pickup nicely with its slew of dark-chrome accents, 20-inch dark-chrome wheels, dark window tint, “Platinum Reserve” badging, and much more. If you want something more unique, the dark-themed Midnight Edition models are likely up your alley.

Like the F-150, the Titan has an off-road-prepped model in the PRO-4X, which features an upgraded suspension, a higher rider height, knobby tires, and more. What it lacks is the raw power of the Raptor and its Baja-derived looks.

  • Fewer options means an easier decision

Interior

The 2019 Ford F-150 has no lack of hard angles and blocky shapes in its cabin, particularly its dashboard. It almost looks like something ripped straight from a dystopian sci-fi movie. This unique cabin also has loads of available features, including a B&O premium audio system with 10 speakers and a subwoofer, active park assist, automatic emergency braking, navigation, custom-looking leather upholstery, and much more. While all those features are great, the base XL trim is stripped way down and best suited for the work site only with its 4.2-inch non-touchscreen, four-speaker audio system, and vinyl floors.

The 2019 Nissan Titan may not have the sharp looks of the F-150, but there are plenty of buyers who prefer its more down-to-earth setup. What it doesn’t lack in are standard features, as even the base S trim comes with a wide range of desirable features like a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and more. These are all available in the F-150 but only in the XLT and higher trims.

In terms of interior space, there is really no match, as the Ford F-150 easily trumps the Nissan Titan in all but one key measurable. And that one loss is by 0.2 inches in front headroom, so we’d be splitting hairs to make that comparison.

Performance

As with its exterior options, there is no shortage of powertrain options for the 2019 Ford F-150. There are six options altogether: a 290-horsepower 3.3-liter V-6, a 325-horsepower 2.7-liter twin-turbo V-6, a 395-horsepower 5.0-liter V-8, a 375-horsepower 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6, a 250-horsepower 3.0-liter turbo-diesel V-6, and a 450-horsepower high-output 3.5-liter V-6. While each engine has its own specialty, performance lovers will want to pair the high-output 3.5-liter V-6 with the Limited trim to create the second-quickest production pickup with its 5.1-second 0-to-60 sprint time.

The 2019 Nissan Titan is the anti-F-150 in this area, as it has just one engine option: a 5.6-liter V-8 that cranks out 390 horsepower and 394 pound-feet of torque. While it may lose out in the power game to the upper end of the F-150 lineup, it remains quicker than most with its 5.9-second 0-to-60 sprint.

Where buyers will also notice a difference in the F-150 is its towing capacity. Sure, its base engine and the 2.7-liter turbo V-6 are light on towing next to the Titan, but the rest of the engine lineup crushes the Titan’s 9,660-pound towing capacity.
