Interior

Inside, the 2019 Ford F-150 boasts an angular dashboard that gives it a look that fits in with the younger crowd without offending older buyers. In its base XL trim, the 2019 Ford F-150 is very simple with its vinyl seating, rubberized flooring, 4.2-inch audio system screen, four-speaker sound system, and other basics.

Performance

Both the 2019 F-150 and Silverado have an array of engine options, but each has its own standout powerplants that set it apart. The 2019 Silverado’s lineup starts with a 285-horsepower 4.3-liter V-8 engine and continues with a pair of 355-horsepower 5.3-liter V-8 engines with differing fuel systems. This lineup tops out with a 420-horsepower 6.2-liter V-8. Stuffed in the middle of the lineup is a unique 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine with 310 horsepower. The latter engine is supposed to deliver V-6 performance and four-cylinder fuel economy, but it falls short with a 1 mpg deficiency in combined mileage next to the F-150’s base V-6.

The Ford F-150 rolls in with a similar engine lineup that starts with a 290-horsepower 3.3-liter V-6 engine and includes a 5.0-liter V-8 with 395 horsepower. The F-150 sets itself apart with three twin-turbo V-6 engines, including a 325-horsepower 2.7-liter, a 375-horsepower 3.5-liter V-6, and a 450-horsepower high-output 3.5-liter V-6. Further distinguishing the F-150 is its 3.0-liter turbo-diesel V-6 that delivers up to 440 pound-feet of torque and 30 mpg highway. The Silverado has its own diesel engine coming, but it will not be in full swing until 2020.

Towing is a big part of owning a pickup, and the Silverado has a 200-pound advantage when comparing its base V-6 against the F-150’s base engine. The F-150 quickly comes back to beat the Silverado in towing in all other powertrain combinations, peaking with a 1,000-pound max-towing advantage.
