Chevy has tons of crossovers to meet all our Green Cove Springs buyers’ needs, and one of the latest is the 2019 Blazer. How does the new 2019 Chevy Blazer compare to the existing 2019 Chevy Equinox? Continue reading to find out.
Exterior
In 2018, Chevy released the redesigned Equinox and threw a stick of dynamite in the brand’s relatively timid crossover design language. This new design brought in sharper lines, thin wraparound headlights, a distinct grille, and more to set it apart in a very vanilla class.
While the Equinox was a wild redo for Chevy, no one expected what would happen just a years later when the 2019 Chevy Blazer debuted. This midsize crossover rolled in with an even more aggressive look with its sleek headlights, kick-up rear glass, aggressive front end, and more. This sharp, new crossover makes the Equinox look relatively toned down.
Completing the 2019 Blazer’s wild look are its more striking standard features, including HID headlights, LED daytime running lights, and bright 18-inch wheels. The Equinox isn’t too far behind it, but its lower base price results in a few cuts.
The Chevy Blazer is significantly larger than the Equinox in every key measurable, making the latter easier to handle in tight traffic and to stuff into ever-shrinking parking spaces.
Measurement | 2019 Chevy Blazer | 2019 Chevy Equinox | Difference |
Length | 191.4 inches | 183.1 inches | +8.3 inches |
Width | 76.7 inches | 72.6 inches | +4.1 inches |

Advantage: 2019 Chevy Equinox
- Smaller and easier to manage
- Toned-down body fits more buyers’ style
- More value
Advantage: 2019 Chevy Blazer
- Stunning new look
- Sure to grab a few stares
- Standard 18-inch wheels
Interior
The 2019 Chevy Equinox’s cabin pushed the automaker’s cabin and use of premium materials in its mainstream crossovers to new heights. It also brought in a more shapely dash with a contrasting insert, satin-chrome trim, and more. For all the Equinox did to advance interior design, the Blazer turned it on its ear with a “floating” infotainment screen, more distinct horizontal lines, sporty rounded air vents, a stubby shifter, and a new four-spoke steering wheel. There is no denying the Blazer has the superior interior in both style and luxury.
In the features department, the Equinox’s base L trim is equipped with all the basics most buyers need and a few added premium amenities. These standard features include the Chevrolet Infotainment 3 system, a 7-inch touchscreen, six-speaker audio system, Bluetooth audio streaming, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, power windows, Single-zone manual climate control, illuminated vanity mirrors, a deluxe three-spoke steering wheel, power door locks, 4G LTE Wi-Fi, and more.
The base 2019 Chevy Blazer L is a more premium crossover, and it has the price and list of standard features to prove it. That list includes all the same standard features as the Equinox, plus a digital compass, two rear charge-only USB ports, 8-inch touchscreen, dual-zone automatic climate control, premium cloth seating, and an HD rearview camera.
In terms of roominess, the 2019 Chevy Blazer wins in nearly every measurable, and it wins some by large margins. Surprisingly, though, the smaller Equinox’s rear seats have a tiny advantage in legroom. Cargo room also goes to the Blazer, but only by a fraction of a cubic foot.
Measurement | 2019 Chevy Blazer | 2019 Chevy Equinox | Difference |
Front headroom | 39.8 inches | 38.2 to 40 inches | -0.2 to +1.6 inches |
Front legroom | 41 inches | 40.9 inches | +0.1 inches |
Front shoulder room | 59.1 inches | 57.2 inches | +1.9 inches |
Front hip room | 55.6 inches | 54.2 inches | +1.4 inches |
Rear headroom | 38.6 inches | 36.9 to 38.5 inches | +0.1 to +1.7 inches |
Rear legroom | 39.6 inches | 39.7 inches | -0.1 inches |
Rear shoulder room | 58.6 inches | 55.5 inches | +3.1 inches |
Rear hip room | 54.2 inches | 51.7 inches | +2.5 inches |
Cargo room (rear seats upright) | 30.5 cubic feet | 29.9 cubic feet | +0.6 cubic feet |
Cargo room (rear seats folded) | 64.2 cubic feet | 63.5 cubic feet | +0.7 cubic feet |
Advantage: 2019 Chevy Equinox
- More headroom
- Lots of features for the money
Advantage: 2019 Chevy Blazer
- Roomier cabin
- More standard features
- Sporty-looking cabin
Performance
Smaller crossovers must combine fuel efficiency and power using several engine options, and the 2019 Blazer and 2019 Equinox offer that. The Blazer comes standard with a 193-horsepower 2.5-liter four-cylinder that delivers a respectable 27 mpg highway. Its optional 3.6-liter V-6 engine offers 308 horsepower and a 6.2-second 0-to-60 time for buyers who prefer a little pep.
The 2019 Equinox has three engine options, starting with its standard turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine that cranks out 170 horses and 203 pound-feet of torque. This allows the Equinox to deliver up to 32 mpg highway, but it is quite slow with its 9.2-second 0-to-60 time. The optional 2.0-liter turbocharged four-pot delivers 252 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque that helps it sprint to 60 mph in 7.2 seconds and deliver up to 29 mpg highway.
Buyers seeking thriftiness will prefer the Equinox’s 1.6-liter turbo-diesel four-cylinder that is light on horsepower at 137 ponies but big on thriftiness with up to 39 mpg highway.
