Chevy recently revealed the 2019 Silverado 1500 would gain a new 3.0-liter diesel engine, but it went on radio silence after the announcement as it worked through the intricacies of developing and testing the new engine. Today, Chevy has revealed all the details surrounding its new diesel engine, leading up to its official arrival to the lineup. Learn what this engine offers our Green Cover Springs area truck shoppers.
The 3.0-liter Duramax inline-six engine will roll into showrooms boasting 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque, giving it all the power it needs to haul trailers, payload, and passengers with ease. Making hauling even easier is the fact it delivers 95% of its peak torque from 1,250 rpm and sustains max torque from 1,500 to 3,000 rpm. And with its tuned air-induction system and other noise-reducing features, this diesel engine is nothing like the rap-tapping school bus engines of yesteryear. It will deliver a smooth, quiet drive.
The 3.0-liter Duramax inline-six turbo-diesel engine will pair with a 10-speed automatic transmission, giving it plenty of gear options for hauling loads. This transmission and the engine’s automatic stop/start technology will help improve efficiency by keeping revs low at highway speeds. Helping manage loads will be an exhaust-brake feature to reduce brake use when in Tow/Haul mode.
The 3.0-liter Duramax inline-six engine will be available in the LT, RST, LTZ, and High Country trim levels in the 2019 Silverado 1500 lineup. It will carry the same price as the range-topping 6.2-liter V-8 engine, which will reflect a $2,495 premium over the 5.3-liter V-8 and a $3,890 price increase over the 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine.
